Never had to job search? How one executive landed 27 interviews

We landed this client 27 interviews, including Google, Stripe, DoorDash, Visa, Cisco, Snowflake, DocuSign, Mastercard and Postman.

The result: a VP of Operations role paying $350K in base and $550K+ in TC.

When we first spoke with this client, she was already an accomplished executive with years of experience across large enterprises, private equity and startups.

She was doing well professionally, but had started thinking seriously about her next move. She wanted greater responsibility, a bigger leadership mandate and compensation that reflected the scope of work she was taking on.

She had never had to search for a job herself

There was just one problem.

“I have never had to search jobs myself. Jobs have always come to me through exec recruiting or through people I know.”

Her resume hadn't been updated in years. Neither had her LinkedIn profile. And while she knew exactly what she could bring to an organization, she wasn't particularly familiar with navigating today's job market independently.

She wanted to explore VP, SVP and EVP opportunities, preferably at larger enterprises where she could operate at scale.

But she was still working full-time, managing a demanding leadership role, and had no intention of turning her job search into another full-time responsibility.

Why coaching and LinkedIn advice weren't what she needed

Before coming to us, she'd spoken with three other firms.

Most offered some combination of career coaching, LinkedIn guidance and advice on how to reach out to hiring managers.

She understood the value of those services, but they weren't what she was looking for.

“If I had the time to do it, I would do it.”

That pretty much summed up her situation.

She needed someone to handle the operational work of finding opportunities, managing applications and conducting outreach while she continued doing her actual job.

How we ran the search while she kept working

When we explained how our process worked, she felt she'd finally found what she was looking for.

We started by understanding the kinds of companies and leadership responsibilities she wanted, then built a search around those preferences.

Our team handled the research, applications and outreach, while keeping her involved in decisions about which opportunities were worth pursuing.

She was selective throughout. Some companies were worth continuing conversations with, while others weren't quite the right fit.

And whenever something needed discussing:

“If there was anything I needed, I could just ping him [our CSM] and we could get on a quick call and discuss.”

27 interviews and a VP of Operations offer

Over the next four months, we landed her 27 interviews, including Google, Stripe, DoorDash, Visa, Cisco, Snowflake, DocuSign, Mastercard and Postman.

Eventually, she accepted a VP of Operations role paying $350K+ in base salary and over $550K in total compensation.

Looking back, she appreciated how much operational work we'd taken off her plate.

If you're a senior executive considering your next move but don't have the time to manage a search yourself, that's exactly what my team is here for.
