Applications going into a black hole? 26 interviews in 75 days

Laid off after an acquisition, with nothing in the pipeline

After his former employer was acquired and a large portion of the IT staff was laid off, this client found himself looking for a new job.

He was targeting Senior Manager and Director-level IT roles, preferably around Dallas-Fort Worth, but his applications weren't getting him anywhere.

As he put it:

“I am submitting the resume but they just go into a black hole. No idea what's happening.”

He'd been searching for months and had managed to secure just 4 or 5 interviews on his own. By the time we spoke, he had no active opportunities in his pipeline.

That's when he came across Wolf Mentoring.

It sounded too good to be true, so he checked our reviews

Initially, he wasn't convinced. The promise of landing interviews and a guaranteed offer sounded almost too good to be true.

We know. We get that a lot. =)

But after looking through our client reviews and track record, he decided to take a chance.

“I don't have much to lose. You know what, I'm gonna go for it regardless.”

What changed: a rebuilt resume, direct outreach and follow-ups

Once he joined, our team rebuilt his resume, identified suitable IT leadership opportunities and started reaching out directly to hiring managers and other decision-makers.

The follow-ups made a particularly big difference.

He later told us that the persistent outreach "made all the difference in the world."

26 interviews in 75 days, and two offers

And the results started showing up on his calendar.

Within 75 days, he had landed 26 interviews with companies including American Express, Appian, Bitwarden, 3Cloud, Prisma Health, EPAM Systems and Fannie Mae.

That's an average of more than one interview round every three days.

At one point, he told us:

“I've got 3 interviews today. I've got 2 interviews tomorrow.”

Quite a change from sending resumes into a black hole and waiting for someone to respond.

The search eventually resulted in two offers, and he accepted an AVP of IT Infrastructure role with $160K+ in base compensation, moving into a new industry with broader responsibilities.

He also had the freedom to turn down an offer that didn't make sense for his location and compensation expectations.

When you've been laid off and your applications aren't producing interviews, it's easy to start feeling like you need to accept whatever comes your way.

Having multiple opportunities gives you room to make a decision based on what you actually want from your next role.

That’s exactly what we deliver for all our clients.
