Tech layoffs in 2026 have already passed all of 2025

“I was recently laid off, and today I went to the office to submit my laptop as part of my last-day formalities.

My wife is also working, and we have a 2-year-old son. There was no one at home to take care of him, so I had no choice but to take him with me.

When I reached the office, I was told that my son couldn’t enter the office premises.”

The numbers behind it

After reading this in a post on the Layoffs subreddit, I pulled some data from layoffs.fyi:

In the entire year of 2025, 278 tracked companies laid off 122,606 tech employees within the US.

As of August 12th, 2026, the count for this year has crossed 126K and we still have 5 months to go.

We can vouch for the numbers as well. 2 out of our last 3 offboardings have been clients who came to us after being laid off due to “restructuring.” And it’s not like it had anything to do with their performance; we only work with top performers anyway.

The ones who were proactive

The only reason they sailed relatively smoothly is that they were proactive. They got in conversation with us early and had a steady pipeline of interviews before having to make moves out of desperation.

There are people who are trying (in vain) to land interviews while also handling prep, a full-time job, parenthood, and other responsibilities. It’s like trying to fix a car while driving it, and not all of us are Dominic Toretto.

If you relate to the post or want to avoid dealing with such a situation altogether, book a call with us. We’ll keep landing you interviews. You keep acing them.
