We applied to 4000+ jobs so you don’t have to.
When you apply for dozens of roles and don’t hear back, you’re either doing something wrong or are extremely unlucky. After landing qualified interviews for hundreds of clients, I am yet to find a case of the latter.
What's going wrong
Here is an exhaustive list of what’s going wrong:
- The hiring managers/recruiters don’t see alignment.
- There are candidates in the pipeline that are a better fit.
- You are a good fit, but your resume didn’t convey your value appropriately.
- Your location doesn’t match, or they found a local candidate.
- You were never a good fit for the role to begin with.
- They have enough candidates in the pipeline already, you were a little late to the game.
- They closed the req/paused the hiring or changed the job description and are now looking for someone else.
How to get more interviews
Now that said, here’s what you can do to address the issue and maximize your interviews:
- Apply only to the closely fitting roles: This means you actually are specialized in the area they are looking for. For eg: If they are specifically looking for a Director of Platform Engineering and DevOps in a FinServ space, and you’re a general Software Engineering Leader in B2C SaaS and you “also know software operations”, then you likely are not a close fit. Simply because when the market is saturated, they can hire an exact match.
- Demonstrate your unique Niche Expertise on your resume as a tech leader: Don’t go broad to make yourself a “catch-all” resume. Because you won’t land roles that you aren’t a good fit for anyway. But by keeping things vague, you miss out on roles where you are an exact fit, but the Hiring Manager can’t see it right off the bat.
- Be quick to apply. Don’t waste time assessing too much.
- Most Importantly: Go the extra mile to connect with the Hiring Managers/Recruiters in case you actually are a great fit. Hiring Managers want to hire; make it known to them why you think you are a good fit. Make their life easy. Many times, they may have skipped past your resume for whatever reason, so making that extra effort helps solve it.
- Skip all this effort and book a call with us so we can set you up for our service that keeps landing you qualified interviews automatically.
